Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Science are essential for the solution of many problems facing the society today. From drug discovery to energy and fuels, from climate change to healthcare; chemists and chemical engineers are inventing and developing new materials, new processes, new products and novel equipment that society needs.

In ICES, our research programmes reflect this. We are one of Singapore's family of research institutes under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and we carry out world class research and development focused on chemistry and chemical engineering. Through our research we aim to nurture creative and inspired young scientists who will go on to be leaders in their field. We aim to make Singapore the location of choice for industrial and collaborative research, for global multi national companies as well as fostering new companies and new ventures. Through our work we strive to build a dynamic, thriving, knowledge based economy in Singapore.

Our research programmes are outlined in this brochure. They reflect the key capabilities that are required for R&D in drug discovery, the manufacture of Pharmaceutical products, the invention of new formulations and delivery systems, new specialty chemicals and applications, new, cost effective and environmentally benign manufacturing routes to petrochemicals and in delivering sustainable sources of energy, fuels and chemical feedstocks whilst mitigating the impact on climate change.

These are essential to the future growth of the pharmaceutical and chemical industries in Singapore, but they are also the key challenges facing society around the world today. We recongise our responsibility to deliver the products the world needs whilst ensuring that we continue to have an environment we will be proud to pass on to future generations.

Our facilities and infrastructure have been purposely designed and built to match our research programmes, with state-of-the-art equipment, pilot plant and laboratories. We provide a well-equipped and safe environment for our staff and visitors to carry out their work.

Located in Singapore, our outlook is truly global. We have talented staff from all over the world, from fresh graduates to well established researchers with a wealth of academic and industrial experience. We provide challenging careers across the range of topics from fundamental science to applied process development.
