Synthesis of monomers, polymers and catalysts

All labs are equipped with vacuum/argon manifolds, Schlenk glassware and solvent purification systems for the synthesis of compounds under exclusion of oxygen and moisture.

MBraun Gloveboxes

In our five gloveboxes we prepare and store air sensitive compounds and catalysts under an atmosphere of purified argon gas.

Parr Pressure Reactors

The Parr reactors are used for screening of catalysts in high pressure reactions for hydrogenation, carbonylation and olefin polymerization. We have ten units ranging from 50 mL to 1000 mL size.

Büchi Pressure Reactors

Our two units (Polyclave and Versoclave) are fitted with high performance thermostats, mass flow and pressure controllers and datalogging to allow exact monitoring and control of reaction parameters. The vessel sizes are variable from 500 to 5000 mL.

Amtec SPR16

The  AMTEC SPR 16  is a fully automated array of 16 small reactors and used for high throughput screening of catalysts in solution and slurry phase.

10L Chemglass Reactor

The 10L jacketed reactor is used for the scale-up of monomer and polymer synthesis.

GC, HPLC and GPC

Gas and liquid chromatography (4 units) are used for product analysis of reactions.Ambient temperature gel permeation chromatography (3 units) determines molecular weight and polydispersity of polymers in various solvents.

Viscotec GPC with Triple Detector

Triple detection comprises refractive index, viscosity and light scattering to determine the absolute molecular weights of polymers.

PolymerLabs High Temperature GPC with triple detector and FT-IR

High temperature GPC is used to measure the molecular weight and polydispersity of polyolefins with triple detection (RI, viscosity, light scattering). A parallel on-line FT-IR is used to determine the amount and distribution of side chain branches or comonomers.

Polymer Char TREF/CRYSTAF

Temperature rising elution fractionation (TREF) and Crystallization Analysis Fractionation (CRYSTAF) are used for the fast measurement of the Chemical Composition Distribution in polyolefins based on the difference in crystallizability of short chain branched polymers.

Contact Angle Metre

The contact angle meter measures the surface energy and wettability of coatings and polymer films.

ThermoElectron Eurolab 16 Twin Screw Extruder

The bench size extruder is used for compounding and extrusion of polymers with additives, polymer blends, nanocomposites and for reactive extrusion.

ThermoHaake Miniinjection Molder

The miniinjection molder forms ASTM and ISO standard samples of polymers for tensile and DMA tests.

Zwick Tensile Tester

Tensile tests record stress- strain curves and measure the tensile strength, modulus and toughness of polymers.
